The School of Communication and Design (SCD) at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) invites applications for the positions in the “100 Top Talents” program, as well as research fellows, associate research fellows, and full-time postdoctoral fellows.

About the School

The School of Communication and Design (SCD) at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was founded in 2003. SCD boasts a solid foundation in theoretical research, high competitiveness in professional skills, and distinctive features in discipline construction. A series of centers and laboratories have been established to develop students’ creative thinking and professional skills, such as Guangdong Key Laboratory  for Big Data Analysis and Simulation of Public Opinion, the News Editing Laboratory, the Center for Documentary Photography,the Communication Center for Interactive Media Design, the Guhe Media Lab. 

SCD offers two bachelor’s degree programs: Journalism and Communication; and four master’s degree programs: Journalism and Communication, Art and Design, Financial Journalism, Digital Media; and a Doctorate Degree in Political Communication. In addition, SCD has a series of provincial- and municipal-level research institutes, including the Guangdong Key Laboratory for Big Data Analysis and the Simulation of Public Opinion, the Guangdong Key Research Institute of Social Science, and the Guangzhou Key Research Center for Big Data and Public Communication. Furthermore, SCD holds an influential position in many think tanks, such as the Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Development Studies of Sun Yat-sen University, and attaches great importance to academic research in the fields of digital journalism, public communication, visual communication, and computational communication.

SCD is staffed by 50 faculty members who are strong in teaching, research, and professional experiences. Almost all of our faculty members hold a doctoral degree from well-renowned universities worldwide. In 2017, as Sun Yat-sen University was selected as a first-class educational institution, SCD is facing a great opportunity in terms of development. 12. “100 Top Talents” Program at Sun Yat-sen University

Type One: Leading Talents (Professor)

The ideal candidate should:

1. Be under 50.
2. Have a Ph.D. in communication or related fields and teaching experience at an internationally-renowned institution.
3. Meet the requirements of the “Chang Jiang Scholars Program” (Distinguished Professor Category), or have equivalent academic influence in China and abroad, or have made important achievements in the humanities and social sciences.

Type Two: Distinguished Young Talents (Professor/Associate Professor)

The ideal candidate should:

1. Be under 43.
2. Have a Ph.D. in Communication or related fields and teaching experience at an internationally-renowned institution.
3. Meet the requirements of the “Chang Jiang Scholars Program” (Young Scholar category), the “Ten Thousand Talent Program” (Top-notch Young Scholars) or have equivalent academic influence both in China and abroad.

Type Three: Excellent Young Scholars (Associate Professor)

The ideal candidate should:

1. Be under 38.
2. Have a Ph.D. in Communication or related fields and teaching experience at an internationally-renowned institution.
3. Demonstrate abilities in active thinking and innovation, and potential to obtain high-level professional achievements.

12. Research Fellows

Required qualifications:

1. Be under 38.
2. Have outstanding academic potential and research achievements and published at least three outstanding academic achievements.
3. Have worked as postdoctoral fellow, lecturer, or assistant professor in well-known universities or research institutions in China or abroad.
4. Have presided over at least one provincial or ministerial research project. (Not compulsory for overseas applicants).

12. Associate Research Fellows

Required qualifications:

1. Be under 38.
2. Have outstanding academic potential and research achievements and published at least two outstanding academic achievements.
3. Be outstanding doctoral or postdoctoral graduates from well-known universities or research institutions in China or abroad.

12. Ful-time Postdoctoral Fellows

Required qualifications:

1. Be under 35.
2. Have a Ph.D. in Communication at an internationally-renowned institution with a record of original scholarly research.
3. Have an excellent academic background and strong scientific research abilities.
